The camera be it film or digital can see much of what our eyes cannot. Long exposures can see into the darkness. During those exposures light can be added in a fashion impossible in the real world. This has been a rich seam of imagery that I have mined off and on for a long time. Practice helped immensely in the days of film where the world was as if a print to be dodged and burned in the darkroom with often unforgiving results. This section starts with images made on film.
